Jig saws are reciprocating saws that are perfectly suited for irregular curves. Curves that are commonly found on jig saw puzzles… like the U-Nit puzzles my Grandfather made. For more on that visit http://www.unit puzzles.com and catch up. Since I inherited one of the oldest saws that my Grand Father once owned from my father who also cut more than a million puzzle pieces for his father, I wanted to know more about it. This Jig saw is a Walker-turner J24 made in 1933, several years after he began making puzzles. It is all original except for the electric motor that was replaced with a GM Packard motor made in 1954.
The saw is mounted to a home built stand and I can not tell you who made it but it is certainly custom as Walker Turner only manufactured and sold metal stands for many of their equipment pieces. I wish i could find one. For now I’ll keep the home made stand because it does have sentimental value. The more I look at it the more I believe that stand was made for a smaller machine. If you are thinking it is a little unstable you are correct.
